CONSTRUCTED WITH CARE
The iconic Grasshopper lamp designed by Greta Grossman was first produced in 1948. The tubular brass stand is mounted on a brass base whilst the elongated conical steel shade is mounted with a free-moving joint in solid brass.
SENSIBLE MODERNISM
This two-part sculpture proved to be the most technically demanding due to its complex curves, and so the object never reached serial production. Then the Eames Elephant was made of plastic, which made it accessible for the target group for which it was originally designed: children.
ELEGANT AESTHETICAL EXPRESSION
Minimalist aesthetical expression of the lamp’s form perfectly matches its directed light and the interplay between the two – subtly colored form and the bright light – is what is at the root of the timeless appeal of the iconic Grasshopper table lamp.

Inspired by Greta Magnusson Grossman
SWEDEN (July 21, 1906 - August 1999) Born and raised in Sweden, Greta Magnusson Grossman represents a literal link between European design and California modernism. In 1940, after already establishing herself as a designer in Sweden, she and her husband, jazz bandleader Billy Grossman, immigrated to Los Angeles. Grossman’s compact, functional and visually lightweight modern aesthetic appealed to a previously ignored but ever-growing demographic: single, savvy, career-minded women. Grossman was quoted in 1951 as saying that California design “is not a superimposed style, but an answer to present conditions. It has developed out of our own preference for living in a modern way.” Her own preferences and groundbreaking work as a female designer have become recognizable parts of the visual vocabulary of American modernism.
