ICONIC DESIGN

The LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) gained legendary status, earning the title "the Chair of the Century" by Time magazine. First introduced to the public in 1946, it remains in production with the same configuration, standing the test of time with its timeless appeal. The Eames LCW showcases the remarkable mastery of molded plywood, achieved through innovative manufacturing techniques and years of experience, making it an enduring symbol of American design.

INNOVATING WITH PLYWOOD
The Eames LCW was born out of the Eames Office's dedication to exploring the possibilities of molded plywood. The design process led to experimentation with various techniques, including the creation of the "Kazaam" machine, allowing for the intricate shaping of plywood. The breakthrough came when they split the shell into two parts, the seat and back, which revealed the honest use of molded plywood. This lightweight and mass-producible chair represents a landmark achievement in furniture design, embodying the spirit of the post-war era and securing its place as an iconic and celebrated piece of furniture history.

Designer

Charles and Ray Eames

Inspired by Charles and Ray Eames

USA (1907–1978; 1912–1988) Design is for living. That maxim shaped a widespread shift in design during the 1940s and 1950s. It was a revolution of form, an exciting visual language that signaled a new age and a fresh start – and two of its prime movers were Charles and Ray Eames. Charles Ormond Eames, Jr and Bernice Alexandra "Ray" Eames were a husband and wife team whose unique synergy led to a whole new look in furniture. Lean and modern. Sleek, sophisticated and simple. Beautifully functional. They had ideas about making a better world, one in which things were designed to fulfill the practical needs of ordinary people and bring greater simplicity and pleasure to our lives.
